Making That Pottery and Hitting The Town!

Well Thursday, like most others here in Seoul, was an active day. We left in the morning for the pottery museum of South Korea! (Too bad Mom wasn't here, or else she would've boughten up all the earthenware they had :) No worries mom, I'm bringing back gifts :p). We toured that museum and then went to a flea market-esque building with individual sellers and their pottery. We loaded up the buses again and headed to another location where we would be making our own pottery :)

Note: Pictured at right is my "bus buddy" and I in front of the National Ceramics building

Turns out I'm a pretty good potter! Too bad my name isn't Harry, or else I'd be famous! (That joke was for you Marshall :p) I made a nice mug for my dad, but because mine wasn't chosen to be saved, all my hard work was for nothing, as they destroyed them all :/ (Turns out I wasn't so great after all. Much love dad!) We got back to the base and ate dinner, and worked on our group paper. We had a group of 8 people, half of them Korean girls. We picked a topic, and wrote a 2 page paper. I guess the one typing didn't have much paper experience, because it took her over an hour to write it. I find myself chuckling at an occasional comment of pain over our task. 2 pages? I've written longer papers over class syllabi at GCC!

Friday was our day to listen to and enjoy Korean traditional dance. We got to sleep an hour later, and headed to the outside yard to watch the dancers. It was pretty interesting stuff, almost pre-war-like chanting, trying to get the gods and soldiers pumped up for battle. We then got to play the instruments until lunch time. After lunch we were free until the evening, where we were going to watch a performance. We had the option to go to another location and meet the group at the theater, which a group of us did. We visited the Golden Palace which was built in honor of Buddha. There was a nice mountain there that we decided to climb on a whim. It was an invigorating climb I must say! That evening we went out to a traditional Korean restaurant, again with sitting down and short tables. It was quite an experience! That evening we went to the NANTA (Cookin') performance. It was the longest running Korean Broadway show, and it was well worth it. It was a pretty exciting show, full of knife tricks and other fun stuff :) We returned to the base and hung out before calling it a night.

As always thanks for reading and leave some comments :) 벤자민
